Many towns in our area were struck with deadly flooding on October 8, 2005. Guilford Fire rescued a subject from a house surrounded by flood waters on Green River Road. As seen above, Route 5 was under water in places and Slate Rock Road was completely washed out. Governor Jim Douglas came to Guilford the following day to view the damage to the town. Guilford received the worst of the flooding in Vermont. In near-by Alstead, New Hampshire, two people were killed by flood waters.
Below are photos of the December 12, 2008 ice storm, which virtually shut-down New England for nearly a week. Many people in our area lost power. The following day, Guilford Fire checked on many people who were without power and heat. In the following days, we helped people with generator issues, trees that had fallen onto buildings, trees that had fallen into roadways and evacuating those in need to the shelter at the Guilford Community Church.
