Guilford Junior Firefighters

             People age 16 to 18 who are interested in joining Guilford Fire & Rescue can become an active member of Guilford Fire & Rescue thanks to the Junior Firefighter Program.  To be a Junior Firefighter, you must live in or near Guilford, be at least 16 years of age possess the minimum of a Learner's Permit.

             Junior Firefighters learn all about firefighting and emergency medical procedures, and train with the Guilford Fire & Rescue every Tuesday at 6:30 pm.  Junior Firefighters can respond to real-life emergencies along with the fire department with the following exceptions:

  • Junior Firefighters may not respond to incidents on the Interstate Highway and may not respond to mutual aid calls to another town.
  • Junior Firefighters may not leave school or school-related events to respond to calls.
  • Junior Firefighters may not respond to calls past 9:30 pm on school-nights (Sunday Night through Thursday Night).

             When a Junior Firefighter reaches the age of 18, they can become a full member of the Guilford Fire & Rescue.  Junior Firefighters are also eligable to take the Firefighter Class at the Career Center in Brattleboro.
